In Brief: Since their genesis in Japan and subsequent adoption by the West and beyond, Emoji continues to grow as a sophisticated international language and seems to suggest a new stage of globalization. No grammar, definitions, or spelling get in the way of the raw meaning of each self-contained symbol. By drawing up a new symbol, giving it a reference number, and sending out a software update, the entire language can evolve.
